things girls do that are basically therapy

there are some things that just make life feel a little better. a three-hour catch-up with your best friend, getting ready together even when you have nowhere to go, or doing your nails at midnight because suddenly, that's exactly what the night needs.
no big life changes, no grand plans. just little things that somehow make everything feel a little less overwhelming.
here are a few things every girlie knows are basically therapy.
01. getting ready with your best friend
you could be getting ready for the biggest night of your life or just putting on lip gloss to go downstairs, but everything is better when your best friend is around. there's music playing, outfits being tried on, unsolicited opinions being shared and at least one person asking, “wait, should i change?”
somewhere between borrowing each other's clothes and talking about absolutely everything, you forget whatever was bothering you in the first place. honestly, half the fun isn't even the plans. it's getting ready for them.
02. changing your nails at midnight
you know that feeling when you've had a long day, you're lying in bed scrolling through pinterest, and suddenly your current nails just aren't matching your mood anymore?
next thing you know, you've got your nail kit out, you're picking a fresh set, and it's somehow become your favourite part of the day.
there's something about taking a little time for yourself, choosing a colour you love and giving yourself a fresh set that feels like a tiny reset. and with press-ons, you don't need to wait for a salon appointment or plan your entire week around a manicure. sometimes, a new set is all the change you need.
03. making a playlist for someone you'll never text
we've all been there. one minute you're listening to a song, the next you're building an entire playlist around a person who probably doesn't even know they're the inspiration.
every lyric means something. every song has a backstory. and somehow, you've gone from three songs to a 27-track playlist with a very specific title that you would absolutely deny exists if anyone asked.
will you ever send it to them? probably not. will you listen to it on repeat anyway? absolutely.
04. taking yourself on a little solo date
getting dressed up just to get a coffee. going to the bookstore without rushing. ordering your favourite dessert because you feel like it. sitting by yourself and realising that your own company is actually pretty great.
solo dates have a way of reminding you that you don't always need to wait for someone else's plans to have a good time. you can make an ordinary afternoon feel special just because you decided it should be.
and yes, putting on a cute outfit and doing your nails for a date with yourself is completely valid. who said you need a plus one to look good?
05. having an everything-shower
you know the one. the hair mask, the body scrub, the everything shower playlist, the moisturiser you've been forgetting to use and the clean pyjamas waiting for you afterwards.
it's less about following a perfect beauty routine and more about taking your sweet time with yourself. no rushing, no checking the clock every two minutes, no trying to squeeze five things into one.
just you, your favourite products and the feeling of getting into bed afterwards, smelling amazing and having absolutely nowhere else to be.
06. romanticising the most ordinary things
your morning coffee in your favourite cup. a walk with your headphones on. fresh bedsheets on a sunday. putting on your favourite perfume even when you're staying home.
not every day is going to be exciting, and that's okay. sometimes, making an ordinary day feel a little special is enough to change your entire mood.
light the candle. wear the outfit. use the good lip gloss. put on the nails you've been saving for a special occasion.
the special occasion can literally be a tuesday.
07. cleaning your room when your life feels chaotic
sometimes, you don't know where to start with your life, so you start with your wardrobe.
suddenly, you're changing your bedsheets, organising your makeup drawer, throwing away old receipts and finding things you thought you'd lost six months ago. and somewhere between cleaning your desk and rearranging your bedside table, things start feeling a little more manageable.
is cleaning your room going to solve every problem? no. but having a clear space, fresh sheets and your favourite things exactly where you want them can feel like a pretty good place to start.
08. having a full-blown gossip session with your girlies
the “quick call?” that turns into three hours. the story that starts with “okay, don't judge me.” the screenshots that require a full investigation. and the one friend who always has a theory about everything.
sometimes, you don't need advice or a solution. you just need someone who will listen to the entire story, ask the right questions and understand why that one tiny detail actually matters so much.
bonus points if the conversation happens over snacks, with matching nails and absolutely no intention of going to bed on time.
so, what's your version of therapy?
maybe it's a fresh set of nails at midnight. maybe it's a long drive with your favourite playlist, a coffee date with yourself or a conversation with your best friend that fixes something you couldn't quite put into words.
whatever it is, we're here for the little things that make being a girl feel so special.
and if your version involves putting on a fresh set of nailinit press-ons, applying a little cuticle oil and taking a moment just for yourself, well, we fully support that.
because not every reset has to be a big one. sometimes, it's just about doing something small that makes you feel a little more like yourself. ♡
your reminder to romanticise your life, one little thing at a time.
